Douglas Gunderson Obituary

Douglas John Gunderson, 65, of Heppner, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Heppner. Due to COVID-19 a private family graveside was held at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery.

He was born at Heppner on August 1, 1955, the son of Eddie and Beverly Yocom Gunderson. Doug was raised in and attended school in Heppner, graduating from Heppner High School. He went on to Blue Mountain Community College where he graduated with an Associate Degree. Doug was involved in sports both in high school and college. He was a member of the golf team at both schools.

Doug was a super fan of all Heppner High School sports, the Seahawk football team, and a Mariner fan. He enjoyed watching all sports on Television. Before health problems slowed him down, he enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and playing pool.

His childhood was spent in casts for a great deal of time. He endured many surgeries in attempt to correct his leg problems. Despite being in bracing he once pitched a no hitter in Little League. Doug also won a punt, pass, and kick contest in his earlier years.

Doug had a passion for life despite his health issues. He never gave up hope that one day he would gain back his mobility.

There was a big place in his heart for his great-niece, Whitley, and great-nephew Easton.

His mother Beverly preceded him in death in 2000. He is survived by his father, Eddie, brother, David Gunderson and his wife Tricia all of Heppner, nephews Brent Gunderson and his wife Kimmie, and their daughter Whitley of La Grande, Derek Gunderson and his wife Meghan and their son Easton of Heppner.
