Joan R. Wade, 87, of Condon, died Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Condon. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Condon Cemetery.
She was born the daughter of Andrew and Dorothy Briggs Rintoul at Portland, Oregon on January 25, 1934. Joan was raised in Portland where she attended Gregory Heights Grade School, then graduating from Grant High School. She then went on to Oregon State University in Corvallis where she met her future husband, Larry Wade.
The couple married in December of 1954 and lived in Corvallis where their first daughter was born in 1955. They then moved to the ranch near Condon where she lived until moving to Haven House in 2017 and moving to Summit Springs in 2019.
Joan was talented in many areas. She was an excellent seamstress; making lots of clothes for her daughters and her grandkids, played the piano by reading music and playing by ear, all she needed was the name of the song and a couple of bars and she could play the whole song. Joan’s friends and family would gather around the piano singing while she played. Her talents led her to take up tole painting and she was also very good at it; her paintings are on the walls of her kids and grandkids.
Joan and Larry loved to travel, they belonged to the 180 Club and went to many fly ins as well as many flights on their own. One of their more memorable trips was to Australia where Larry flew a small plane, there they traveled with a group and toured different places in the Out Back.
In 1968 their daughter Janet was diagnosed with leukemia and passed in 1969. It was after that the family took many camping trips.
Joan is survived by her daughter; Nancy McElligott and her husband Pete, a son; Rob Wade and his wife Becky, 5 grandkids, 4 great-grandkids and a brother Bob Rintoul. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Larry in 2015, daughter Janet.
