Marcia Karo was born on May 17, 1945, in Portland, Oregon to Juanita and Kenneth Karo. Marcia spent her formative years in Portland.
While living in Portland she had two sons, Kenneth Thompson, and Brian Thompson. She married Gene Wichelmann and moved to Antelope, Oregon, where she lived with her husband and children until his tragic death on August 25, 1983. After Gene’s death, she moved back to the Portland area, but missed the Southeast part of the state and moved to Fossil, Oregon at age 50.
Marcia worked at the Bank of Eastern Oregon until her retirement at age 59 and lived out her life with her dear friends and family.
She was an avid reader and worked to improve the Fossil Library with a grant and contributions to expand the building and acquire additional books. Marcia also enjoyed gardening and raising her dogs and numerous cats over the years.
Marcia was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of going to Greece with her close friend Diane Pickens when she was 70. She enjoyed traveling to Seattle and Sedro Woolley every year to visit her sister, Barbara Johnson, and her niece, Diane Johnson. She also sponsored a child in Africa, and because of her generosity, he was able to graduate from high school this year.
Survivors in conclude her son Kenneth Thompson, grandsons Liam and Conner, niece Linda Johnson and great-nephews Loren and Andrew Bernhardt.
She was preceded in death by her son Brian Thompson, her sister Barbara Johnson and niece Diane Johnson.
Marcia was a joy to all who knew her and will be forever remembered for her outgoing nature, personality, and love of life.
A Celebration of Life is to be held at the Arthur Glover Memorial Park in Fossil on June 11th at 1 p.m.
