Richard Rickard Brown

Long time Condon resident Richard Rickard Brown, 84 passed away on August 15, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. He was born June 28, 1934 to Luther “Ben” and Maude Rickard Brown in The Dalles, Oregon. He joined sisters Roberta and Mildred. His brother Norman “Ed” was born later. He graduated from Condon High School in 1953.

As a young man he worked on the barges on the Columbia River as well as on a number of local farms and ranches. He met Marlene Griffith of the Pendleton area and married in 1957. They had three sons James Brown, John Brown and Steven Brown. He worked building houses in Chehalis, Washington. The family then moved to the Fairbank, Alaska area where Dick did housing construction during the construction of the oil pipeline.

After he and Marlene divorced he returned to the Condon area in 1978 where he met Margaret Glasgow. They married in Reno, Nevada in October 1980. He retired from the Condon School District as the head custodian. With Margaret came five additional adult children. Dick and Margaret moved to McMinnville to live with their daughter Darca in March of this year.

Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, wood working, reading westerns and coffee with the guys at the drive in. The last few months he had enjoyed watching the antics of squirrels outside his window and the many birds that flocked to the feeders.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.

He is survived by his wife Margaret, sons James (Linda) Brown of Fairbanks, Alaska, John (Amanda) Brown of Waldport, Oregon and Steve (Tully) Brown of Beavercreek, Oregon, his sister-in-law, Kay Hassing of Condon, his step-children Terry (Vickie) Glasgow of Philomath, Oregon, Denise Martin of Walla Walla, Washington, Kevin Glasgow of Pahrump, Nevada, Darca Glasgow of McMinnville and Shawna Griffith of Condon. He leaves numerous nieces, nephews, grand children, great grand children and cousins.

A graveside service will be held on August 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Condon Cemetery with a potluck to follow downstairs at the Elks Lodge.
