Terry Haney, 71, of Arlington, Oregon, passed away on December 13, 2019, at home with family. Terry put up a valiant year-long fight against small-cell lung cancer, and while the illness weakened his body, Terry's spirit was strong to his last breath.
Terry Patrick Haney was the youngest of 14 children born to parents Violet (Shipley) and Julius Haney on March 11, 1948, in McMinnville, Oregon. Terry attended school in the McMinnville area, and he shared countless happy memories of growing up in a large family.
Terry held different jobs in various fields during his working years; he was a logger, worked in a mill and the shipyards in Portland, construction, became a farmer, then worked for Waste Management, and finally, his favorite position of all was care-taking for his beloved friend, Millie Potter, and ranching her treasured herd of cattle.
As a younger man Terry had a special relationship with and dedicated a great deal of time to his Dad. He loved playing hide-and-go seek in the dark and scaring his children when they were little. Terry loved hunting, fishing and camping all his life. He gave to multiple charities but was a regular donor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and St. Joseph's Indian School. He read the Good Book each day sitting at his kitchen table. He believed in keeping his word, being honest and fair in his dealings, respecting one's elders and to his children and grandchildren he will always be remembered and loved for his gruff character.
Terry is survived by daughter Kay (Kerry) Cleghorn of Arlington, OR; daughter Jerrie (Rex) Newport of Colville, WA; daughter Christeen (Nathan) Fischer of Portland, OR; son Jeff Fish of Lenox, GA; son Evan (Mo) Haney of Stanfield, OR; daughter Lisa (Lee) Dodson of Wallula, WA; and daughter Joan (Craig) Ruth of Evans, WA. Terry is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jason Haney, in 2016; his mother, Violet (Shipley) Haney, in 1972; his father, Julius Haney, in 1981; and all of his siblings.
Our Dad was a blessing and a treasure. Please join us to celebrate his life as we gather to remember and honor him on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Arlington (150 Hemlock Street). A potluck luncheon will follow the service, and all are welcome and wanted.
